Analysis Method of Benzalkonium Chloride in Medicated Pad by UV Spectrophotometer

Each Medicated Pad Contain

BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE 0.5% w/w
(As BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION I.P.)
Reagent :- 0.01 M Hydrochloric Acid
Picric acid solution :- Weigh about 100 mg of Picric Acid and 14.5 g of
Anhydrous Sodium acetate to a 500 ml volumetric
Flask, and dissolve in 400 ml of Water.Add 20 ml
Of glacial acetic acid,dilute with water to volume
And mix. 
 Test Solution :- Remove the medicated pad from the tape by the help
Of forcep.and take about 80 mg of medicated pad in
Stoppered test tube and add 20 ml of 0.01 M
Hydrochloric acid and shake vigorously for 15 minutes

Std. Praparation :-Weigh accurately about 200 mg of Benzalkonium 
Chloride solution (50% w/w) or according to sample
Dissolve in 100 ml volumetric flask with 0.01 M
Hydrochloric acid.take 2 ml of this solution and make
Up 100 ml with 0.01 M Hydrochloric acid 

Procedure :- Pipet 20 ml of Standard solution and 20 ml of 0.01
M Hydrochloric acid to provide a Blank and take above
Test solution as above mentioned method into separate 
Stoppered test tube.Add 5.0 ml of Picric acid solution
And 25.0 ml of Chloroform and shake for 2 minute.
Collect the chloroform in other dried test tube add
2.0 g of anhydrous sodium sulphate and shake allow
the solution to stand for 10 miniutes.
Measure the absorbance both STD/TEST at 405 nm
And calculate by comperision
